Corporate Health & Safety Manager

Salary range: £68,685 - £78,513
Hybrid working model: 3 days per week in the office
Location: London

About the Role:

Hammond Clarke are working in partnership with a London Local Authority in their search for a Corporate Health and Safety Manager. We are seeking a forward thinking individual shaping the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Council’s Corporate Health & Safety framework.

Working at the heart of the Council, you will provide expert advice to senior leaders, service managers and operational teams across a diverse portfolio including corporate offices, housing, waste management and community facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and delivery of the Council’s corporate health & safety strategy
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work etc.
  • Provide high-level advice and assurance to Directors, Heads of Service, and Members
  • Oversee risk management processes, including corporate risk registers and safety audits
  • Lead on incident investigations, reporting (including RIDDOR), and lessons learned
  • Develop and deliver training programmes to build organisational competence
  • Manage and review policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
  • Promote a proactive, positive safety culture across all services

What we are looking for:

  • You will be a confident and credible health and safety professional with the ability to influence at all levels of a complex organisation.
  • Experience in a Local Government setting.
  • A recognised qualification such as NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Membership of a professional body (e.g. IOSH), ideally CMIOSH or working towards
  • Proven experience in a corporate health & safety role, preferably within the public sector or a multi-site organisation
  • Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and best practice
  • Experience of advising senior stakeholders and driving cultural change
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills
