Hammond Clarke is working with a local authority in Hertfordshire in their search for an experienced Auditor. This is an exciting opportunity to join an established audit service delivering high quality internal audit and assurance.

About the role

This is a varied and engaging position where you’ll contribute to a diverse range of audit reviews across several partner organisations. Each assignment is project-based, with clear objectives and timescales, and offers exposure to different areas of council operations — from service delivery to corporate functions. You’ll be expected to plan, deliver, and report on audits independently, while working collaboratively with colleagues across the partnership. Travel between partner sites may occasionally be required, for which mileage reimbursement will be provided. Flexible and remote working are supported.

About you

We’re looking for a proactive and inquisitive professional who takes pride in delivering high-quality audit work that adds real value. Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Experience in internal audit within a public sector or local government environment (experience in partnership or shared service settings would be advantageous).
  • A relevant auditing or accountancy qualification (e.g. AAT, IIA, or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Strong ICT capability and the confidence to adapt quickly to new systems.
  • The ability to plan and manage your own workload, working independently or as part of a team.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a car.

A sound understanding of the Global Internal Audit Standards and commitment to upholding professional ethics will be key to your success in the role.

What we offer

In return, you’ll benefit from:

  • A friendly and supportive team culture.
  • Flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working options.
  • A varied workload offering insight across multiple local authorities.
  • Opportunities for professional development and continuous improvement.

We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and encourage applications from all backgrounds.
