Deputy Chief Accountant

Contract : 6 Months (Remote Working) 
Day Rate : £600-£700

We are looking for an exceptional Deputy Chief Accountant with local government in depth technical accounting skills and experience including closure of accounts and dealing with the external audit experience.

The Deputy Chief Accountant is a key finance role in the Council on:

• the preparation of the Council’s annual Financial Statements in accordance with relevant accounting codes of practice and statutory requirements
• leading and advising on all aspects of financial accounting and controls in accordance with best practice and technical accounting requirements
• managing the external audit of the Councils annual accounts
• reporting to and advising senior management and councillors on the impact of technical accounting. The role is a key member of the Finance management team and will contribute to the Finance team’s wider initiatives including the drive for continuous improvement and efficiency in service delivery and controls. The successful candidate will have:
• A full CCAB or CIMA accountancy qualification
• Relevant experience of leading the annual closure of accounts process and production of the annual Statement of Accounts within local government
• Excellent knowledge of local authority accounting legislation, standards, and requirements.
• Proficient in producing local government accounts with detailed technical understanding of various aspects of Financial Statements
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must be able to manage and handle work in stressful situations and able to complete work under tight deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have experience at Chief accountant level within a local authority. They will have experience of complex audit queries, technical accounting background and worked in a similar role within a local authority.
